Dear Ros,
I refer to previous e-mails on the above matter and can advise that,
following referral of your concerns to the Roads Service, the situation
is as follows.
This problem exists due to the fact that two gullies at the low point in
Craigmaddie Road do not have any effective discharge point and operate
simply on the basis of a 'soak away'. There is a 'weep hole' in an
adjacent wall but it appears that this is being blocked off which in
turn prevents a degree of discharge of any water which collects in this
area. In recent times of emergency, resources attending flooding
incidents have unblocked the weep hole. This has in turn resulted in
complaints from adjacent landowners which now prevents this action being
taken. Other actions which are taken include having the gully tails
cleaned out to relieve the flooding but our main means of response is by
the time consuming and expensive method of tankering the water to
another location.
The only long term solution would be to have the existing gullies taken
to a proper discharge point which would be the nearby loch. This would
require accessing private land and would require the consent of the
landowners or possibly via a legal process. The Roads Service will
consider the feasibility of this as resources permit.
I trust this clarifies the current position. I am aware it is not the
best answer but with budget restraints being what they are , it may be
some time before anything happens. You can be sure however that I will
try to keep the situation high on the agenda.
Kind regards
Una
